Powerful Things You Can Do with Just an Ice Cube!

Posted July 10, 2018

Many people use ice cubes as to cool their drinks, maintain fresh vegetables and meat, or simply use them cool off in the summer.  Imagine, some of the brilliant household hacks that require items you don’t have just lying around in the home.  With just one ice cube, you can make cleaning, plant care, and be getting dressed in the morning!  Let’s check it out.

Removing gum off of clothing and other fabrics

Strangely enough, gum can end up in the oddest places.  Nothing to worry!  Whether it’s on your carpet, shirt or any other fabrics, all you need is an ice cube and a butter knife or palette knife to make it easy to remove with no sticky residue.  Simply lay one or two ice cubes on top of the gum and let it stay until the gum feels cold or frozen.  Afterward, gently chip away with the knife and it will easily peel off.

Quick-iron your clothing

If you have an in-unit washer and dryer, try this one out.  Set your dryer to the warmest setting and throw in the wrinkled items and a few ice cubes.  Please be advised not to use more than three items if you are planning to de-wrinkling a few clothing.  What happens is the ice cube creates steam in the dryer, leaving clothes smooth and ready-to-wear.

Removing dents from rugs or carpets

Often time you will come across with furniture that old and heavy may leave dents in your rugs or carpets, and those can be annoying and ugly.  In order to fluff the carpet, leave an ice cube on the dent and let it melt.  Then, simply brush up the fibers at the spot to make it look fresh new.  This works best on thicker carpets or rugs, but why not try to improve the look regardless.  It’s better than nothing!

Reheating rice without drying it out

To avoid dried rice, place an ice cube in the center of the dish, on top of the rice before putting it in the microwave.  Often many people pour water in the bowl but it won’t get that extra moisture and it only reheats on the bottom.  Adding an ice cube on top of the rice, the water will steam the rice and give it a little extra moisture and ensure it reheats evenly.  Then you will end up warm and good taste rice!

Watering your plants

Many often you may come across watering your plants can overflow or can be too much work.  Throwing a few ice cubes on top of the soil will keep the plants hydrated.  As the cubes slowly melt, the dirt will absorb the water without becoming over saturated.

Maintaining disposal

Garbage disposals can slow down when there’s a significant amount of grease build up.  If you find that the disposal is not working properly, try throwing in a few ice cubes to help break up any grease or other residues.  Please remember to have your faucet on when running the disposal!

Smoothing out the sticky caulk

If you want to give the caulk a pro-finish, use an ice cube to help smooth out the seam at the end.  The ice cube is firm enough to smooth out the caulk and create an even finish, and it’s cold enough that the caulk won’t stick to it.  Make sure to give it a try!
