Summer may be halfway over and classes don’t begin for another month, but Champaign-Urbana is chalked full of ways to keep busy until it’s time to hit the books.
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has published an extensive calendar of events leading up to, and even continuing on after, the first day of the Fall semester. Greek Reunion just wrapped up this last weekend, so maybe it’s a relaxing day at the museum you’re craving. Krannert Art Museum hosts regular exhibitions of varying art styles, eras, etc. Krannert Center also partners with other local artists to host outdoor concerts and events. You can catch a live concert at the Research Park, free of charge, as early as tomorrow.
Feeling fresh? Every Thursday from 11 am to 4 pm the Sustainable Student Farm sells fresh grown produce on the Quad. Can’t make it today? They’ll be there every Thursday until October.
Are you a science major? Spend a lot of time at the Coordinated Science Laboratory? On July 25th, campus police are hosting a free emergency training dedicated to prepare students who regularly occupy the CSL. Happening from 10 – 11:30 am, this is a one time event that UI campus police urge occupants to attend.
Free things and grad students go hand-in-hand. The first Thursday of every month, Coble Cafe offers free coffee and treats to grad students from 2 – 4 pm. Don’t forget to bring a friend!
13 Thursdays is ending soon! Don’t forget that every Thursday, campus and local businesses offer discounts and special offers. With over 20 participating businesses throughout campustown, you could truly eat your heart out. This event also offers free 1-hour validated parking. Take advantage before it ends! The final participating Thursday is August 8. If you’re an MHM resident, don’t forget to take your Gold VIP card along with you to score extra deals.
